Aston Wood Ryder Cup 2018
Team Europe Captained by Paul Pedalty took on Team USA captained by myself for the famous Aston Wood Ryder Cup Trophy.
Team Europe: Paul Pedelty, Martin Bennett, Chris Bird, Garry Copson, Kem Davis, John Carroll, Roger Kitteridge, Warren Dudley - Toole, Chris Iles, Mark Houston, Gary Moore and Rob Harper. Team USA: Tim Regan, Malcolm Beads, Mike Hickmott, Steve Tarmey, Harry Reindl, Duncan Burgess, Jim Moran, John Friel, Rob Griffin, Micky Price, Nick Regan and Mark Thompson. An early start on Saturday morning for everyone but after some inspirational speeches from the Captains the Battle commenced. The format for Saturday was Foursomes for the front 9 and fourballs for the back 9 meaning 12 points up for grabs. Team USA came out of the traps quickly and never looked back as they took the first day nine points to three. Captain Ped had some thinking to do, what order to send his team out on Sunday? Sunday's format was 2 x 9 hole singles matches so a massive 24 points available to be won. The big comeback that Europe had hoped for started strongly but honours were even after the front nine matches had six points each. Then the USA got stronger in the back nine matches taking eight points to Europe's four points. Mike Hickmott and myself were unbeaten over the weekend winning four points from four matches helping inspire the USA team to victory. Team USA win the Aston Wood Ryder Cup 2018 23 points to 13 points. |
