Club news

Captain's Drive-in 2018

Sunday was officially the first day of the new golfing season at Aston Wood and the Captain's drive in is a fantastic event to celebrate and to welcome our new captain's of the golf club.

Our new men's Captain John Brough and our new lady Captain Julie Harrison looked amazing on the day. They made such an effort and is was great to see so many members there to support them on their special day. After a lovely speech by our very own president Alan Waldron, both past and present captains made brilliant drives down the first followed by fireworks to start the rest of the day off.

Thank you to Chris and Ann Meadows our outgoing captains for the hard work you have put in over the past 12 months.

The course looked in fantastic condition after all the hard work by the green staff. It has been a difficult time for them with the persisting weather conditions but all their hard work paid off and many compliments were made on how good the course is playing.

The day would not be a success without the help of several people, so I would like to thank Ken Bielby, Albert Fletcher, Veronica Swinnerton and Sue Harries for running the sign in desk and making sure everyone was in a team to play in the event.

Considering For most golfers it was the first time this year playing off the main tee's the scoring for both the men and Ladies was of a high standard, the full list of results are on the notice board but the top 3 were:

1st place with a very impressive score of 43 points was Garry Copson.
2nd Place with 39 points was Nick Fogarty (better back 9).
3rd place with 39 points was Colin Crawshaw.

Congratulations Garry who also won the nearest the pin competition on the 7th Hole and has seen his handicap drop by 2 shots.

I would like to make a special mention to Garry because 2 years ago he was going to pack the game up. Garry was not playing well and not enjoying it, so we got together had a chat and started working on a few things in his swing. Over the 2 years Garry has had many ups and a few downs but has never given up and its fantastic to see how his hard work and dedication has paid off. Well done Garry.
