Welcome to another exciting edition to Aston Wood GC weekly newsletter. We hope that you're having a good week on and off the golf course. We're doing something a little different in this week's newsletter, so we hope you enjoy.

Ladies top of the class at Rules Night

On Tuesday evening we held our first Rules Night for our lady members. Our Lady Captain brought the wine and nibbles and Simon and myself presented a selection of helpful tips alongside some fun and games to help some of our ladies with questions and understanding of certain R&A rules.

All the ladies who attended had a fantastic informative evening, but also enjoyed the company and a few little tipples. We finished the evening with a quiz which opened a lot more questions and opinions on the rules. It was very interesting to hear people’s views, so I have decided to include a rules question in my newsletter each week to test yourself.

We hope to be hosting more of these nights in the future to include all members.

Think you know the rules

You slice your tee shot at the 1st and think it may be out of bounds. You say nothing but play another ball from the tee. You find your original ball in bounds. Which one of the following is true?

A. You can continue with either ball.
B. You must continue with the original ball and you will be playing your second shot with it.
C. You must continue with the second ball and you will be playing your fourth shot with it.

I will be giving a prize (drawn at random ) to anyone who gives the correct answer and the rule number/ definition. The winner will be announced in next week’s newsletter with the correct answer and a new question for you.

Indoor winter league

The indoor winter league will be starting November, so we need all entry forms in by Tuesday, 7 November. This is your opportunity to play four great courses and also win some money. All in the comfort of the warm teaching studio. We have changed the format to pairs competition to make it easier for you to enter and enjoy.

The longest hole in history

We all love a challenge; beating a personal best or doing something outside of our comfort zone. That feeling of having achieved something beyond what we normally would.

In an attempt to raise $100,000 for children’s charities, one man and his caddie (subsequently joined by an adopted dog on their journey) set out to complete the longest hole in history; a par 14,000 carved out of difficult Mongolian terrain, culminating at the 18th green of Mt. Bogd Golf Club.

It took them 82 days to trek the 2011km hole, facing rocky ground, swamps, icy water and desert in the process – click on the link below to view their video. With only 134 balls lost – with one ball lasting 65km! – the man holed a nervy seven-footer to complete the longest hole in history in 20,093 shots, just the mere 6,093 over par. A really special achievement for some fantastic charities.
